Zabuton
The history of zabuton links to tatami. In ancient tatami, it doubled as the bedding in a cushion. Zabuton was expressing the social position and authority.
It developed in the model of the zabuton called “Shitone” before long.
When it was the Kamakura era, by material and the improvement of the manufacturing technique, it came to use cloth for the surface. At middle of the Edo era zabuton almost became as the current form of today.
However, at Taisho era Zabuton spread to the common people.
